Each year Avient provides airlift working in conjunction with Antarctic Logistics and Expeditions (ALE) a company specialist in operating in the southern ice cap region. Avient has been providing this support since 2000, each year an IL76 operates from Punta Arenas in Chile into the Patriot Hills region of Antarctica. Avient supports the movement of cargo and passengers, for expeditions, adventurers and visitors to the region.
The aircraft operate into a specially prepared ice runway, which is carefully maintained and prepared each year prior to the start of the season. ALE have many more years of experience in such operations having been the first commercial operator to carry out such operations.
Avient has worked closely with Antarctic Logistics and Expeditions to build a safe operation to one of the most hostile environments on the earth.
